Overview

KAZ have partnered with Open Awards to deliver the only national touch typing qualification available at entry Level 1.

This course is Regulated by Ofqual and has been Accredited by the CPD Standards Office.

The pass mark for the course is set to 25 wpm for the practical test and 50% for the Theory section.

The typing test lasts 3 minutes and covers just the a-z keys, capitalisation, number keys, comma, full point space bar and enter key. It does not cover the full keyboard.

The Theory Assessment last 35 minutes and consists of 16 questions covering; Correct posture, typing technique and Repetitive Strain Injury.

All revision notes are given. Please note this course is an entry level 1 and all vocabulary used is suitable to a level 1 command of English. As with all remote and regulated courses, final Assessments will be webcam recorded. However, all recorded footage will be deleted from our servers after 14 days, once verified by Open Awards.

On successful completion of the course and verification of webcam id, the learner will be issued with a digital Ofqual regulated certificate and the achievement added to their education record (where their Unique Learner Number has been added). The digital certificate may take unto 28 days to be delivered as this is dependent on the Open Awards processing department.

The majority of employers will reimburse the cost of this training.

This course also counts towards a DofE award - Bronze or Silver Award

Our ‘inclusive’ and interactive typing course uses a unique and proven 'accelerated learning' teaching method. It is incredibly fast, easy to use and will teach you the 'a-z' keys in just 90 minutes* - allowing you to master your keyboard in minutes instead of hours.

Our courses are used by the UK government and corporations around the world, it trains or retrains you to touch type correctly.

Our program is suitable for all users and is SEN/Dyslexia enabled - the SEN aspects were developed with advise and guidance from the Dyslexia Research Trust.

It is designed to be used from anywhere there is an internet connection.

*Testing prior to launch on 18,000 students per year, for 3 years, proved that over 90% of students learned the ‘a-z’ keys in just 90 minutes. Further testing and approval by the Open University resulted in them implementing the course to all students and teachers and a ‘white paper’. However, we strongly advise that students work at their own pace.

If you can already type then why not just take our 'Assessment only' - see the KAZ website for further details.

Description

Our program's unique and proven accelerated learning teaching method incorporates both ‘muscle memory’ and ‘brain balance’ - engaging the major senses of sight, sound and touch simultaneously, radically enhancing memory retention and recall - which is why it is so effective.

Using specific combinations and progressions of just 11 words in 5 scientifically structured phrases, the method trains or ‘retrains’ the fingers of both hands to work symmetrically and simultaneously - No other typing tutor works in this way.

The course offers instruction and encouragement in 5 short modules, in order to hold interest and concentration. The user is allowed to progress at their own pace, acquiring the skill and gaining speed and accuracy without even realizing it.

The 6th and final Assessment module should be attempted when the candidate is consistently achieving a score in excess of 25wpm in our SpeedBuilder long phrases section. The learner is limited to three attempts with a rest of 14 days between attempts to allow for reflection and further practice.

The SEN option incorporates our © Preference Screen - which minimises disturbances related to visual stress. The screen offers the user a selection of options - a choice of 7 typefaces (including 2 licensed fonts), font color, font size, keyboard and colored backgrounds/filters (including 2 specific DRT research based background/filter colors for steadying letter movement and blurring).

KAZ Typing Tutor also allows you to learn with or without sound. However, we recommend the audio version for a richer learning experience. The program also includes ‘speaking keys’ covering the ‘a-z’ keys for the visually impaired.

Jo Elizabeth asked:

My son is aged 10 and I am considering adding this to our HE learning would he be old enough to gain certification?

Answer:

Hi Jo, Unfortunately your son will be too young to be accepted onto the City & Guilds course. The minimum age has just recently been reduced to 15 to allow 'O' level students to gain a qualification. This is a City & Guilds stipulation and although we have tried to reduce the age further, they are firm with their requirements. I'm sorry I can't be of more help but congratulations to you as a parent for considering this and to your son for learning this valuable skill. Kind regards, Keene

Jack asked:

Would this be a good course to do if I intend to get into the Audio Typing job market?

Answer:

Hi Jack - In order to get into the Audio typing job market, this would be an essential skill to have. Our Accelerated Learning teaching method will teach you to type subconsciously, without looking down at the keyboard and in a very short space of time. Also, if you have picked up any bad habits whilst typing, our course will correct them. The City & Guilds assured digital badge and certificate will confirm to employers that you are efficient at the skill and have achived a certain standard.

Seren asked:

What City and Guilds level qualification is this course?

Answer:

HI Seren, Our 'Assured' course is validation that it has met and achieved City & Guilds strict benchmark standard for quality training. This is why all successful candidates are awarded with their City & Guilds digital badge and certificate. It is however not a qualification as such and so does not have a level but attaining the 'Assured' status and the certificate and badge, validates your training and indicates you are proficient in touch typing to future employers. Kind regards, The KAZ team.

K asked:

I am looking at this course for my son. Is there a minimum age for candidates for this course?

Answer:

Hi and thank you for your interest in KAZ Type. We tend to say at 6 years and above any one can learn to touch type. If he is a teenager then as long as he is 15 years at time of taking this test he can gain City & Guilds certification, would certainly be of benefit. But if younger then the standard option would be fine. I hope this helps and if I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
